Open Houses for Prospective Families

We will be hosting several Open Houses for prospective families who are interested in applying for admission for the 2016-2017 school-year.

PreK Application Process

Parents interested in preschool can learn more about CPS programs including LaSalle II’s at http://www.chicagoearlylearning.org/ and can enroll at www.cps.edu/readytolearn.

K-8 Application Process

Admissions for programs at LaSalle II are handled through the Chicago Public Schools system.

Students for the K-8 program are selected for admission by random lottery. To apply to LaSalle II, parents or guardians submit applications during the application period-early October to mid-December. The lottery is then held at the Chicago Public Schools central office in February and March. All elementary schools with lotteries will notify parents by mail of the acceptance or wait list number  of the student by mid-March. Parents of accepted students must accept the available slot and complete enrollment within the time frame set forth by the Office of Academic Enhancement. Please note that failure to complete the enrollment process in the set time frame will result in a forfeiture of the child’s spot.

All magnet school applications must be submitted to the Chicago Public Schools Central Office. Also, parents or guardians may apply to up to twenty schools on one application.

CPS encourages you to apply online at www.apply.cps.edu. Applying online provides an immediate response that your application has been received. If you prefer a paper application, you may still obtain one from cpsmagnet.org or cpsoae.org. Do not submit both.

DO NOT SEND YOUR APPLICATION TO THE SCHOOL(S) TO WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING.

Processing cannot be guaranteed for applications that are not submitted to the Office of Academic Enhancement.

When you do apply, you will receive an email confirmation once your application has been processed. If you do not have an e-mail address, you may enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard/envelope with your application. The postcard/envelope will be returned to you to indicate that your application has been received.

Lottery Information

Sibling – Parents must go through the application process for their children to be considered in the sibling lottery. Siblings will be admitted for entry level spots as long as space is available. Sibling preference only applies to siblings of students who were enrolled the previous school year. For example, this would NOT apply to a sibling if you have one child who was recently admitted for the upcoming school year.

Proximity – up to 40% of the remaining seats will be filled by students living within 1.5 mile radius of the school.

General – remaining seats will be filled through a socio-economic based lottery.

Students on the wait list are contacted as slots become available. There are separate wait lists for sibling, proximity, and general applicants.

Bus Information

CTA bus fare or mileage reimbursement is provided to students who reside within a range of 1.5 to 6 miles from the magnet school to which they are accepted.
